I joined Toastmasters to become a better speaker, just like 100% of new members. I’ve been a DTM since 2012. Three times, I dived into Pathways with great expectations for my real-life speaking projects. Three times, I left frustrated. Pathways seems to emphasize feelings over skill-development, and leadership over speaking…which is the opposite of the reason all members join Toastmasters.
Toastmasters International’s response seems to be, “If only you knew how to use Pathways the way we designed it, you’d like it. Oh, and thank you for paying your dues and your Pathways fees.”
My purpose is not to serve Toastmasters International. TI should be serving me. Since they have no such interest, I will replace Toastmasters with my own group. We’ll meet on Zoom and in person, and we’ll help each other become more effective, in-your-face, universe-denting speakers.
