If you want to exemplify the “Where leaders are made” tagline, consider that real leadership is less about following some “distinguished” plan that mostly benefits TI with extra membership $$, and more about building your club into a group that its members are proud to belong to. A truly excellent club meets its members needs first, and TI’s needs second.
Your last paragraph really struck a nerve with me.
Yes I can see TI becoming a very commercial thing now. Its super easy for them now because they sit back and enjoy the cash roll in, while the clubs struggle with the platforms which are not really updated, and its a set it and leave it sort of scenario where they’re just throwing this out for everyone to work with.
I’m hopeful change will come from within, and hopefully from the club level. I’ll try my best to change things, and should ripples be felt where you are, know where they came from 😉
Thanks for that spark.
The greatest trick Toastmasters ever pulled was convincing people to give hours of their unpaid labor in club, area district leadership and officer positions plus the push for more dues paying members. Then they raised the dues 33%
